The Care Workers Charity, formerly the Care Professionals Benevolent Fund, is calling for people interested in becoming a trustee of the charity to come forward and submit their interest.

The Care Workers Charity supports current, former and retired care workers by providing crucial assistance if someone experiences unexpected crisis or financial hardship.

Widows, partners and orphans of carers can also receive help from the charity, described as a ‘safety net for carers, who through no fault of their own find themselves in crisis.’

Dr Asif Raja, managing director of Summercare, is the newly appointed chair of the charity and Avnish Goyal, managing director of Hallmark Healthcare, is the treasurer.

Davina Ludlow, director of carehome.co.uk and homecare.co.uk is a trustee of the charity, as well as Martin Green, chief executive of Care England and Teresa Lynskey, managing director of Lynskeys Care Services Consultancy.

Chair of the charity, Dr Raja, said: “I have accepted with honour the position of chairman of the Care Workers Charity because of my deep personal commitment to social care and the plight of care workers who are experiencing hardship or sickness.

“The Care Workers Charity cares for some of the most caring and kindest people I have ever known and is now looking for new trustees, supporters and fund raisers so we can help to care for the carers in their time of need.”

The charity relies solely on donations and support from other care organisations within the industry to fund the work it does within the community. Grants have been used to help pay for a range of costs, which in the past has included rehabilitation after a serious car crash, funeral costs and funding for a specialist mobility scooter.

Whether it is donating money or becoming a voluntary member of the fundraising team, the charity wants to hear from people who are keen to make a real difference to the lives of carers when they most need help.

Those interested in receiving more information on becoming a trustee for the charity are being urged to contact The Care Workers Charity by emailing info@thecareworkerscharity.org.uk or calling 0845 601 9055.
