Denise Boyd, managing director of Urgent Care 24, an out of hours GP care provider, has died of cancer.
Kate Lucy, chair of Urgent Care 24, paid tribute to her saying: “Denise was simply an outstanding person and an outstanding professional, and had had an enormous influence on our organisation in a short time.”
Mrs Boyd, 52, was appointed managing director of UC24 in January last year, and oversaw the organisation’s successful bid to continue as the provider of out of hours GP care in Liverpool, Knowsley and Halton.
She was a registered general nurse, had a Master’s degree in Management, and a breadth and depth of experience at director level in both community-based and secondary care services throughout the North West.
“Her death from cancer was sad and shocking, and we and the broader healthcare community will miss her vitality and wisdom,” added Janette Douglas, acting managing director of Wavertree-based Urgent Care 24.
Mrs Boyd lived in Rochdale and had been director of service development with Pennine Care Foundation Trust, director of community services in Bury and deputy director of community services in Kirklees, before joining UC24.
Outside work, she was a school governor and a keen skier. Denise and her husband, Tom, have three grown-up children.
