Brands such as Avon and Brantano joined a selection of independent retailers at the weekend to create an innovative home shopping experience to residents of a local care home in Rugby.

The shopping fair, which included a number of stalls and local businesses, was organised by staff at Willow Tree Nursing Home who wanted to give less mobile residents an accessible retail shopping experience with products on sale including clothes, handmade accessories, gifts and make up.

Recently appointed home manager, Gener Teyhopon, said: “We are absolutely delighted the event went so well and it was great to be able to support local businesses.

“Residents and their families enjoyed having them here to display their products, especially as some residents find it difficult to get out. So they loved the chance to browse the stalls and chat to local retailers from the comfort of the home.”

As well as taking part in some retail therapy, residents and their families were entertained by children from a local dance school and music by singer Martin Reeves.

Mr Teyhopon continued: “The event wasn’t just about shopping. It also showcased some impressive local talent via the dance group and brought back some great memories through the songs from Martin Reeves.

“We really cannot thank everyone enough for contributing and look forward to holding more events for residents throughout the rest of this year.”

Owned by Redwood Care Ltd, Willow Tree Nursing Home has recently achieved an ‘excellent’ rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Mr Teyhopon said :“To be rated so highly shows we are excelling and giving the best possible care for residents, meeting standards and going over and above. We are thrilled.”
