As part of Dementia Awareness Week care sector suppliers, Care Shop has created an informative infographic to help people understand the signs and symptoms of dementia.
The Infographic details the symptoms and changes people might notice in their selves or a family member in order to help more people get a diagnosis.
This year the Alzheimer’s Society’s flag ship campaign Dementia Awareness week has been encouraging people to talk about the illness as part of their ‘don’t bottle it up’ theme.
Caroline Johnson, digital marketing manager at Care Shop, said: “We are proud to support the Alzheimer’s Society and their tireless efforts to raise awareness of dementia in the UK.
“Only 48% of the 800,000 people currently living with the condition actually receive an official diagnosis from their GP or doctor. Meanwhile, the rest of those sufferers are being denied a wide range of support, information and potential treatment options that could help to improve their quality of life. This really needs to improve as an early diagnosis is becoming increasingly important.”
As well as known symptoms of dementia such as an increase in forgetfulness or confusion, Care Shop has urged people to visit their doctors if they have noticed an increased struggle to read or write and have noticed it becoming harder to keep track of conversations during their everyday lives.
Ms Johnson continued: “Our team decided the best way to contribute was by making more people aware of the most common signs and symptoms of dementia, as they may currently be failing to spot or acknowledge them. Dementia is a very difficult subject to talk about, but we just hope this urges people to address any concerns that they may have about themselves, a family member, or even an elderly friend.
“It’s really busy in the Care Shop office this week as we try to raise as much money as possible for the Alzheimer’s Society, which includes fancy dress, cake sales and a quiz. Last week we also raced in Dragon Boats in aid of the society.”
The Care Shop provide a range of products and equipment for the care sector ranging from furniture and equipment to medical consumables.
