A large number of spectators enjoyed watching a charity rounders match between two care homes in the North East.
Staff, residents and relatives supported their homes by taking part in the charity sports event and raised over £600 for both local and national charities.
The game, played between The Gables Care Home care home in Middlesbrough and Mandale House Care Home in Stockton-on-Tees was won by The Gables with a final score of 14 and a half rounders with just two people out.
Activities co-ordinator at The Gables, Naaila Rehman, said: “The Hill Care head to head rounders match was a great success and everyone enjoyed getting involved in a bit of healthy competition, whether they were batting, fielding or spectating.”
Barbara Dewison, activities co-ordinator at Mandale House said: “We were so pleased to be able to raise so much money for charity and never lost sight of the reasons behind the match. There was a fantastic atmosphere, especially because the residents were cheering for their respective teams.”
Both The Gables and Mandale House are part of Hillcare Group Ltd, which runs 20 care homes throughout the UK.
All money raised by the event will be split between Butterwick Hospice and national charity MacMillan Cancer Care.
Butterwick hospice, based in Stockton provides free support for people living with a progressive life limiting illness and is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. MacMillan Cancer Care raised over £186m in 2013 to provide support and help for people diagnosed with cancer and their family.
