A Sanctuary Care home resident and care assistant have been revealed as the faces of the care group’s campaign celebrating the launch of its new mission statement.

The care group chose to use photos of resident Frances Quartermaine and care assistant Chris Coombes after pictures from a photo shoot captured their friendship and conveyed the kindness provided by carers at Sanctuary Care’s 61 homes.

The not for profit group’s mission statement ‘keeping kindness at the heart of our care’ will now be seen across Sanctuary Care’s homes alongside photos of Ms Quartermaine and Ms Coomes, who received a surprise visit from Sanctuary Care’s managing director to thank them for their contribution.

Managing director, Mark McCarthy spent the day at Beach Lawns Residential and Nursing Home in Weston-super-Mare and presented each woman with a signed photo and bunch of flowers.

Mr McCarthy said: “Kindness is a word which means something to everyone – we see it every day in our care homes and it’s a key attribute that our residents and their loved ones look for.

“We felt that Frances and Chris really encapsulated kindness through the special relationship that they have formed. I’d really like to thank both of them for being the face of Sanctuary Care – now and for years to come.”

Ms Quartermaine said: “I can’t believe it! My face is going to be everywhere – it’s quite funny really. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before!

“Chris and I were just having a lovely time together – as we always do – when they took the photos. We weren’t really thinking about having our picture taken and certainly didn’t think it would lead to this!”

Ms Coombes, who has worked at the care home for ten years, said: “I am on cloud nine. After I was presented with the signed photo by Mark I wanted to go to the supermarket and say to everyone ‘don’t you know who I am?’

“Of course, I just phoned my family instead who were very excited too. I am also so very happy for Frances – her face in the picture says it all.”
