Care UK appoints new manager at Cheadle care home

A new care home in Cheadle is preparing to welcome its first residents in April this year after appointing a new manager.

The £9.2 million Care UK home, Abney Court will see Mark Shockledge take up the role of manager to oversee the daily goings on in the Grade II listed building, Abney Hall. The home will create up to 100 new jobs and offer residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as respite and end of life care to older people.

Mr Shockledge has worked in the care sector since he was 16 and has more than 30 years’ experience working as a care home manager and has experience working with people who have dementia, in addition to residential and nursing care.

Mr Shockledge said: “I am delighted to have been appointed as home manager for Abney Court and I am now making the most of the opportunity to play a part in getting the home up and running as we head towards our opening date.

“I strongly believe residents should be the focus of the home and at the centre of everything we do, and I will be leading the way in listening to our residents and getting to know them and their families as they make Abney Court their home. At the same time, I am focused on putting Abney Court on the map as a home that delivers the highest quality care and is a valued part of the community here in Cheadle.”

The home has been designed with residents’ needs in mind and includes a library, cinema, café and hairdressing salon as well as garden room and wheelchair friendly gardens.

Care UK’s Abney Court is located a short distance from Abney Park allowing residents to enjoy the picturesque and tranquil surroundings of the home.
