Caring Homes has produced a guide called ‘Funding the Cost of Care’ which answers the key questions people have when it comes to looking and paying for residential care.

From April 2016, there will be a cap on the amount that a person has to pay out for their care. The cap has been set at £72,000 and only covers care costs.

There is a lot of confusion as to how the cap will work and with the aim of clearing up some of the confusion and making it clearer, Caring Homes has created this guide to introduce families to how means testing determines the entitlements available for their relatives and friends and also to direct them to useful online resources.

Mark Sherriff, sales and marketing director at Caring Homes, said: “Successfully managing the transition of an older person into a full-time residential care placement can be an emotional journey that is full of difficult choices and uncertainty.

“Most people pay something toward the cost of their residential care placement but how much can depend on a lot of different factors, from the type of care needed to the location of the care service. We hope that by answering some of these initial questions over funding, we can play a small part in helping the friends and families of older loved-ones move ahead with greater confidence.”

Davina Ludlow, director at the leading online guide to care homes, carehome.co.uk, said: “Looking for a care home for a friend or relative can be hugely stressful, and this can be magnified when they have to look at the logistics of how to fund their care.

“At carehome.co.uk, we do our best to simplify the whole process of looking for a care home and we hope this guide will do the same with funding and take some of the stress away from families so they don’t feel quite so overwhelmed.”
