HC-One Kingsthorpe View Care Home in Nottingham has taken part in celebrations for HC-One’s nation-wide Carers Rock! Week to raise awareness of the invaluable contribution carers make to the lives of care home Residents, in the same week that a new poll revealed that the British public rank carers as more importance that lawyers, bankers and politicians.
Carers at Kingsthorpe View donned special Carers Rock! t-shirts for a host of fun activities including musical entertainment, tea parties and games. Leading local councillors responsible for health and social care were invited to work alongside HC-One carers for a day to experience at first hand all the work that carers do every day. In addition, HC-One took part in a special grand raffle with a selection of prizes being donated by businesses and the HC-One senior management team.
HC-One, which employs 8,000 carers in over 200 care homes around the country, is the first care home provider to hold an awareness and celebratory week especially for its dedicated carers, who work day in day out to provide the kindest care to vulnerable members of our society.
As part of Carers Rock! Week HC-One commissioned a poll from YouGov, which found that many people rank carers as more important than lawyers, bankers and politicians.
In a survey of 1,507 adults, conducted by YouGov and commissioned by HC-One, people were asked to rank a list of ten jobs in order of importance. The emergency services topped the list, closely followed by teachers and carers. Lawyers, bankers and politicians were placed at the bottom of most people’s list.
Jobs were ranked in the following order according to which ranking position was the highest/most popular for each job:
1. Doctor
2. Nurse
3. Police Officer
4. Firefighter
5. Teacher
6. Carer
7. Dentist
8. Lawyer
9. Politician
10. Banker
Dr Chai Patel, Chairman of HC-One said:
“It is heartening to see that the Great British public value care workers alongside the emergency services and the teaching profession. Having worked closely with hundreds of inspirational carers over many years I know that their kindness, compassion, thoughtfulness and care makes a huge difference to the quality of life for some of the most vulnerable members of our society.
“Carers do an amazing job, every day of the year and it was great for colleagues and Residents alike to be able to celebrate their dedication, professionalism, and above all, their kindness!”
