A Stakeford care home opened its doors to the local community and offered a creative, fun-filled ‘Art Attack’ open day.

Bridge View Care Home, a provider of specialist care for older people, invited residents, guests and family members to take part in an artistic competition comprising of three categories which included children, adults aged between 20-40 and over 40s.

Manager at Bridge View Care Home, Irene Wallis, said: “We are always looking at ways to provide our residents with further enjoyable activities and the art classes were well received. It was great to get the entire community on board for the initiative, which produced some very impressive works of art.”

Each guest submitted their most prized piece of artwork which was then judged by Councillor Ray Butler, of Choppington Parish Council.

Prior to the competition, the staff at the home held art masterclasses for the residents, which paid dividends for Bridge View resident, Doris Beaney, 88, who was awarded the ‘Over 40s’ prize for her tapestry design of a lady in red holding a candelabrum.

Irene Wallis, added: “I would like to thank everyone who came along to our open day and for participating in the competition. Also, a big congratulations to all the winners, including Doris for her excellent tapestry creation, who have provided some fantastic artwork that we can keep on display in our art gallery.”

Bridge View care home is located in Choppington, Northumberland and operated by Akari Care. The home specialises in residential and nursing care and offers a respite service.
