Two alpacas were subjected to a mindless attack at Danesmoor Nursing Home in Haslingden, which specialises in dementia care for older people.
The nursing homes’ CCTV captured the incident that occurred at approximately 10.15pm on Tuesday 4 August 2015. Two men were understood to have gained access to the care home grounds and entered the animal’s enclosure.
Community beat manager police constable, Claire Scott, said: “This unprovoked and mindless attack on two defenceless animals is a disgrace to say the least and we will do all we can to identify these men.”
A large bench and two plastic garden chairs were used by the men to throw at the animals, named Bill and Ben.
The offenders also chased the alpacas around their enclosure with a broken chair leg.
PC Scott added: “Bill and Ben are there for the elderly residents to enjoy and this sort of behaviour is simply intolerable. It beggars belief that anyone would find this amusing.
“If you know anything at all about this or recognise the men in the CCTV then please contact us.”
Fortunately the alpacas, who are brothers and have lived at the home for five years since they were babies, were not seriously hurt after being checked by a vet and given a clean bill of health.
