A summer fete at a Gloucester care home has raised £1,000 to fund inspiring excursions and activities for the residents.

Families and friends joined in with the fun at The Knoll Care Home in Tuffley, where local traders were invited to showcase and sell their products.

Care manager at The Knoll Care Home, Gener Tayhopon, said: “Our summer fete has become a firm date in the annual calendar. It was another great day and our activities co-ordinator, Sarah Dunn, played a significant role in its success.

The summer fete was attended by over 250 people and raised a significant sum of money, with the proceeds going to the home’s ‘Residents’ Fund’. The trust will enable the care home’s residents to go on day-trips, put on activities and build a calendar of community events.

A children’s choir from the religious organisation Gloucester Filipino Couples for Christ played at the summer fete as part of their ongoing work with the home, its families and the community.

Retailers from in and around Tuffley also donated prizes for the annual event while local entrepreneurs showcased their clothing, crafts, jewellery and healthcare products.

Commenting on the event’s success, Mr Tayhopon added: “Aside from our superb team here at The Knoll, I want to thank everyone for making it such a special day. The residents were closely involved in the planning and organisation, choosing the activities and the food and drinks to serve. It all came together perfectly and I really am overwhelmed with the support received from our staff and the local community.

“The Residents’ Fund is an essential part of life at The Knoll. While everyone benefits from excellent care, it’s also vital to have stimulating, engaging and fun things to do – all of which contributes to a better quality of life.

The Knoll, which is part of the privately-owned Redwood Healthcare Group, is set within 15 acres of grounds with views over Gloucester and the Forest of Dean and provides personal care for residents.
