Residents, staff and visitors at HC-One care homes can now say what they think of the quality of care and services being provided on new user-friendly touchscreen tablet computers.

HC-One, the UK’s third largest care home provider, has so far installed the tablets in the reception areas of 174 of its homes.

Using these tablets, residents, relatives, visitors and staff can respond to a series of questions about their experience in the home, such as: whether people receive a warm welcome to the home; whether there is a positive atmosphere in the home; and whether staff are appropriately prepared for visitors.

It also asks people to rate the level of staff support and engagement with residents and the home’s cleanliness.

HC-One’s chairman Dr Chai Patel said: “We have launched this innovative initiative as part of our ongoing commitment to providing the best experience and kindest care for residents.

“This scheme will also ensure that our homes are a great place for our dedicated colleagues to work, and for relatives and members of HC-One’s local communities to visit.”

HC-One began installing tablets in its homes in June. Since then, over 6,500 pieces of feedback have been received across the country, such as:

‘I've never been in a nursing home like this one. I've lived in a lot of homes but not like this one. This is what you call a home to me well looked after and cared for like this and all the staff and residents are my family here and wouldn't go anywhere else at all. I've been here a long time and they do a lot for us and love being here I get a lot of support when I need it thanks for the staff and residents - love it.’

‘I want to thank staff for their excellent care for my mum.’

‘The carers on the dementia unit deserve recognition. They can't do enough for the residents. I couldn't wish for a better care home for my mum.’
