Former Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg took a coffee break with residents at The Laurels and The Limes care home to raise funds for the Macmillian cancer support charity.

During the coffee morning, Mr Clegg met 103-year-old Hilda Broomhead, the home’s oldest resident who has a memory long enough to remember the impact of quite a few of the nation’s former leaders.

Nick Clegg, the MP for Sheffield Hallam, said: “It was lovely to meet the residents, their relatives and the staff – who are doing such a great job.”

The event is one of thousands of coffee mornings hosted in the UK for Macmillian. The care home managed to raise £100 from the coffee morning and the money will go towards medical, practical and financial support for those with cancer.

Wendy Waddicor, managing director at the Hill Care Group, which operates the care home, said: “It was a pleasure to have Nick Clegg MP at our coffee morning and we were so pleased for the support.

“We run coffee mornings and other fund raising events across the Hill Care group, as they not only help raise valuable funds for great causes, but are a boost for our residents who enjoy meeting visitors and taking part in the activities.”
