Residents at a care home in West Wales can still enjoy life on at the seaside - after staff built a sandy beach and installed a caravan, a beach hut, deckchairs and colourful umbrellas.
The Hallmark care home in Betws, which recently celebrated 25 years, asked residents what they missed most in their lives, prior to being in a care home.
After finding out it was holidays by the seaside, staff decided to create a beach for the residents.
Marie Woodcock, lifestyle co-ordinator at Cartref Annwyl Fan care home, said: “The beach has been a huge success and residents love popping into the caravan and stimulating happy memories of yesteryear.”
Eighty-five-year-old Betty Potter, said: “Every day I come out to read in the caravan and am out in the fresh air with friends all enjoying ourselves, it is very nice indeed!”
The sixty-plus residents at the homes have got their own pub, shop, giant outdoor chess set, in-built wide screen cinema, hair salon, nail bar, vegetable patch, pets corner, birds house, regular visiting entertainers and ‘knit and natter’ sessions.
Cartref Annwyl-Fan care home is part of Hallmark Care Homes, which has 17 care homes across England and Wales. Cartref Annwyl-Fan specialises in nursing, dementia and residential care.
