CQC launches interactive care home ratings map

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has launched a new interactive care home map which lets people find out how their local care homes are rated.

The online tool has been launched at a time when the regulator has completed inspections and issued ratings for nearly 10,000 care and nursing homes across the country out of a possible 17,000, since introducing a new inspection regime in October 2014.

The new map will make it easier for people to see which homes have been rated Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement or Inadequate in their local area.

CQC’s chief inspector of adult social care, Andrea Sutcliffe, said: “When people are considering a care home, either for themselves or a loved one, knowing about the quality of care being provided is a crucial part of the decision making process.

“Through our new online map, I am delighted that for the first time we are able to show a visual and emerging picture of the care homes we have rated as Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement and Inadequate so far.

“Everyone has a right to experience really great care and I hope this resource will help people and families learn more about the thousands of services we have identified as meeting the Mum Test along with those where we are tackling poor care – and ultimately help in choosing the right services for them.”

The CQC’s State of Care report reveals the quality of and safety of adult social care services in England, including where providers are performing well and what needs to improve.

Almost two thirds of all active registered care homes have so far been issued a rating of Good by the CQC.

Care providers are legally required to display their performance ratings issued by the CQC at their premises in a prominent place and on their website.

The CQC carries out robust and specialised inspections, focusing on what matters to people who use the service, and looking at whether they are safe, caring, effective, well-led and responsive to the needs of people using them.
