The values and behaviour’s covered by the 6Cs reinforce the enduring values and beliefs that underpin care wherever it takes place. It gives Eastgate Care an easily understood and consistent way to explain their values as professionals and care staff and to hold themselves to account for the care and services that they provide. The 6Cs naturally focus on putting the person being cared for at the heart of the care they are given.
The strategy is based on the work and vision of Eastgate Care’s Operations Director, Sharon Di Maio who states:
“The overriding aim is to put our residents wellbeing at the heart of the service we provide and aim to enable people to ‘live well’ with dementia. Eastgate Care will become the first choice for individuals and families seeking high quality dementia care. Our mission is to ensure all our residents living with dementia are enabled to live full lives in an environment that enriches and supports their choices.”
“We want the culture to permeate all levels, roles and responsibilities within the organisation. The aim is to eliminate a task focussed culture by focusing on the 6C’s principles which is the crux of achieving high standards of care and positive outcomes for the people who use our services”.
Operations Director, Sharon Di Maio has worked tirelessly with the groups Practice and Professional Development Facilitator, Fiona McCandles – Sugg, to provide a specialist training programme to equip the staff team with the knowledge and skills to provide a high class service.
Fiona is really excited about the dementia strategy and said: "It feels like I’ve been working towards this time since I first met people with dementia 32 years ago! It was doing a work placement when I was on a pre-nursing course at college that made me change my application to become a RMN (Registered Mental Nurse) We have some incredibly committed staff who will make this strategy a success."
Following the launch of the Eastgate Care Ltd on March 3rd 2016, feedback from the start up attendees, has been very positive. Staff from each of the five homes will be undertaking a training programme between April and September 2016.
