Acme Films is on the hunt for larger-than-life, hard-working and inspirational people who work in a care home.
Its aim is to celebrate the warmth and good care that exists in care homes and provide a unique portrait of contemporary Britain. It is looking for a family that runs its own care home or chain of homes.
A spokeswoman for the documentary film company said: “Acme Films is interested in finding new ways of documenting how we care for our elders in Britain today and we hope that by finding a family–run care home we can also explore the unique dynamic of the family business and all the trials and tribulations that come with it. We are in the very early stages of developing the idea and need to speak with as many family-run care homes as possible, purely for research at this stage.
“We want to speak to larger-than-life families full of character and warmth with a busy home life or unusual family set-up. It might be that they are a blended family, with step children, or even a foster family. It might be that the family, as well as running the care home business, is caring for an elderly parent within their own household or they might be living with adult children and their brood all under the same roof!”
The filmmakers want to hear from a range of care home owners to find out what it’s like to not only be in charge of the family home, but also run a business that is a home to the others, all of whom have their own set of complex needs and unique characters.
“We want to find out what are best and worst parts of the job and speak to staff who can tell us about the special relationships and bonds that exist in the unique space of the care home – a place unlike the usual family home environment, a space that has its own set of rules and values. Perhaps you work in an unusual or pioneering care home or retirement village, one where staff and residents socialise and interact in a refreshing and innovative way. Whatever the set up, size or ethos of your care home business, we want to hear from you,” added the Acme spokeswoman.
The filmmakers are in the early stages of research and hoping to speak to as many people as possible about the care homes they know and love. All calls will be treated confidentially and there is no obligation to be filmed at this stage.
