New Century Care have launched a range of new nutritional food menus across its 25 care homes in England and Scotland.

The new menus, created in partnership with food-service providers, Brakes, were designed by nutritionists and dietitians who specialise in the dietary needs of older people.

They menus will supplement the existing high-quality dining services available across the care homes and support New Century Care’s goal to provide nutritious and delicious, tailored catering for every resident.

Phil Smith, chief operating office at Aurem Care, said: “In keeping with our plans to consolidate and strengthen New Century Care’s offer of high-quality services and care to residents, elevating the nutritional standards of the food provided across all our homes was an obvious choice.

“We are pleased to be launching our new nutritional food menus across all New Century Care homes and are delighted to have been able to involve residents in all aspects of its delivery.”

New Century Care's leadership team, along with the staff and residents at the care homes were all involved in the creative process, helping nutritionists and dietitians at Brakes to develop the new menus and nutritional programme.

From brainstorming their favourite dishes to recommending new recipes, residents were actively involved at every stage, from regular tasting to feedback sessions.

Following successful trials at four care homes, the menus have since been rolled out across the remaining homes.

The new dishes are focused on the individual preference of New Century Care residents and include the option of at least two portions of fish each week, five portions of fruit and vegetables every day, and lower and higher energy snacks which are offered throughout the day.

Classic dishes including a Sunday roast and 'Fishy Friday', which are a favourite with residents, have also been given a nutritious twist and will remain on the menu.

Whilst the menu programme will be consistent across all New Century Care homes, a regional dish chosen by residents and the kitchen team, will be served at each care home every Wednesday. The regional dishes will reflect the tastes and palates of each home’s local area.

The New Century Care leadership team and care home staff will continue to gather feedback from residents to inform the Autumn/Winter menus, which will see new options and more variety introduced.

Sam Tippins, account manager at Brakes, added: “A healthy balanced diet is important for people of all ages, and for older people the benefits of a nutritional diet are numerous.

“The menus at New Century Care have been designed to respect the tastes and desires of residents, whilst giving them the high level of nutrition and nourishment they require.”
