They revealed on Facebook that ‘An elderly lady had gone into the store and chosen some shopping and some flowers.....but didn't know what to do next. Staff had seen her getting distressed and more and more confused and called the police. They looked after the lady until PC Dave arrived. It transpired the lady had dementia, which was why she had simply forgotten what to do next.’

Staff at Sainsbury’s allowed the woman to take the shopping and the flowers home for free as she had not taken her purse with her.

West Yorkshire Police said on Facebook: “PC Dave took the lady home. She was very scared and held PC Dave's hand all the way. Once the lady was home, PC Dave got her settled, put her flowers on display in the window, and put her shopping away.”

The Facebook post has been shared nearly 3,000 times with comments such as ‘We need more PC Daves’ and ‘Such wonderful acts of kindness from store and PC Dave, restores faith in society’.
