Residents and staff of a family-run care business in the North East are celebrating after achieving their third ‘Outstanding’ Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Park House Care Home in Guisborough

Park House, located on Park Lane in Guisborough, is the latest home to be rated ‘Outstanding’ following its inspection in July 2016. The service has been rated outstanding for being effective, responsive and well-led, and was rated good for being safe and caring.

Helen McArdle, chairman and founder of the care group, is delighted to see that the care and facilities provided have been recognised as ‘Outstanding’. She said: “My vision has always been to provide the highest quality of care for older people, so I am very proud to share the news that we now have three outstanding gradings from the CQC.

“At Helen McArdle Care we work very hard to continually improve our services and to be innovative in everything that we do; to be one of only two care home groups in the country to achieve three outstanding gradings is a testament to the care, hard work and dedication of the whole team.”

The purpose-built residential care home received positive feedback from the inspector who was particularly impressed with the person-centred care given to residents and the varied range of stimulating activities on offer, including the careful thought that had been given to enhance the life of people living with dementia.

Inspectors also recognised the ‘outstanding’ quality monitoring systems in place, the level of training and development provided for staff and the quality of the dining experience, including twilight dining and the innovative pureed food technique brought to the UK from Europe.

The report has also highlighted how the staff displayed enthusiasm and pride in their work. It states: “We saw the registered manager provide comprehensive levels of supervision and appraisal for staff. This resulted in a talented and motivated workforce. The management team recognised potential and invested in their staff, which empowered staff to support the people who used the service effectively.”

In 2015, Eden House in Bishop Auckland was the first Helen McArdle Care home to achieve an ‘Outstanding’ CQC report, followed by Greenways Court in Consett in June 2016.

Helen McArdle Care is a family-run business providing residential, dementia, nursing, respite care and home care for older people.

The North East based company operates 17 care homes located in County Durham, Hartlepool, Redcar and Cleveland, Tyne and Wear and Northumberland. 12 of Helen McArdle Care’s care homes are rated ‘Good’ and two homes are currently awaiting the official publication of ratings under the CQC’s new regime.

Park House is a purpose-built care home set in the market town of Guisborough and provides care and accommodation for a maximum of 56 older people, some of whom are living with a dementia.
