Two care workers from St Mary’s Court care home in Braintree, Essex, have joined thousands of people around the country in shaving their hair for Macmillan Cancer Research.
Yasmin Grey and Dawn Potter took part in Brave the Shave campaign which has already raised over £3m.
Ms Potter who with fellow care worker, Ms Grey, raised over £1,000, said: “Cancer took my mother’s life and I wanted to do something for someone else. By shaving my hair off for Macmillan I know I’ll be making a difference.”
Ms Grey added: “My grandad was my world and when he passed away due to cancer it had a massive effect on me and my family, so by doing this I have helped to raise money to find a cure for this horrible disease.
“I’ve also chosen to donate my hair to the Little Princess Trust so wigs can be made for children who have lost their own hair through cancer treatments.”
Another reason they chose to shave their heads for charity was because of Vonnie, a member of the care homes’ Activities Team, who has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Ms Grey said: “Vonnie has helped me a lot and is the person I talk to about my life. She is an amazing lady and is one of the bravest people I know.”
