The Duchess of Rutland, who hit the headlines earlier this year, for saying she was ‘delighted’ her daughter would not inherit the dukedom and agreed that land and titles should pass through the male line, has opened a memory café in a Nottinghamshire care home.

The Duchess had tea and cake at the new memory café and a tour of Belvoir Vale Care Home in Widmerpool.

The café and its accompanying rooms will be open to the public alternate weeks, on a Thursday, for those needing a break or change whilst caring for someone with dementia.

Memories Café is the brainchild of care home manager, Jo Widdowson, who said she wanted to “create a secure and beautiful environment where people could relax and enjoy coffee and cakes in a safe and risk-free environment”.

Belvoir Vale Care Home is a mini care complex sited over three buildings, offering residential care in Granby Lodge and The Gate House and residential dementia care in Rutland House. The home features internal courtyards and a sensory garden.

Earlier this year, Belvoir Vale Care Home was inspected and rated Good by the Care Quality Commission.

Belvoir Vale Care Home is part of the Maria Mallaband Care Group, which has an on-going commitment as Investors in People to train and develop staff to meet residents’ individual needs .
