Great Manchester Police and the Health and Safety Executive have launched an investigation into the death of an 87-year-old man, who died from the injuries he sustained, when the lift he was in at Serendipity Care Home collapsed.
Police were alerted just before 2pm on Monday 30 January 2017, that an 87-year-old man had died after being brought to Salford Royal Hospital from the care home in Urmston.
The man’s family have been supported by specially trained officers and the safety of residents and staff is a priority for all agencies involved in the investigation.
Representatives from the police, the Fire Service, Care Quality Commission and members of the Trafford Borough Council safeguarding team met with families of current residents this week to give information on the action taken to ensure the care and welfare of residents.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Parker of Great Manchester Police’s Trafford borough said: “I can confirm that we have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man following an incident at a care home in Urmston.
“This is a complex joint investigation and it will take some time to establish what caused the lift to collapse.
“If anybody has any information that they believe could assist us then we would ask that they contact Trafford police on the numbers below.”
A spokesperson for Trafford Council said: “Trafford Council is aware of the incident and is aiding the police in their investigation as well as supporting the home to manage the needs of the residents during this difficult time.”
