Staff at the Sunrise of Sonning care home wrote to the star asking if he could pay a visit to Pat, after she said that would be her dream wish. They couldn’t believe it when a ‘Mr Clooney’ turned up on Sunday, holding the care home newsletter and looking for Pat.

He stayed and chatted to her for 15 minutes and gave her a bouquet of flowers with a card which said 'I thought you would like some flowers, love George’. After the visit, Pat called him an “absolutely, charming man”.

George Clooney and his wife Amal, a human rights lawyer, who is pregnant with twins, moved to Sonning in 2014.

Linda Jones, who works at the care home, revealed the visit on facebook, saying: “He popped in today, while I was on shift. We didn't know he was coming! Seems hard to believe now that he actually came in. Seems very surreal. Still can't believe he just came in, we didn't know he was coming, total utter shock when his PA/bodyguard said he was in the car in the carpark.

“Pat loves George Clooney and mentions everyday how she would love him to meet him, especially as he lives so near to where I work. So letters have been sent asking, would it be possible for her dream to come true. And what was extra special, it was her birthday in the week. He bought a card and a lovely bunch of flowers.”

Malcolm Hague, divisional support general manager at Sunrise of Sonning, added: “We are so delighted that Pat’s wish came true. She was absolutely thrilled to meet her great icon, and it was such a lovely surprise to see George greet her with flowers and a card. This was a classy gesture from a wonderful man, and it has brought smiles to everyone at Sunrise of Sonning! Huge thank you to George.”
