A care home in Hampshire has been rated ‘outstanding’ and praised for its ‘culture of promoting people’s independence’ as well as its ‘exceptional care and compassion’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Colten Care’s Kingfishers in New Milton, Hampshire, was referred to by a GP in the care home's CQC report, as a “centre of excellence” where “the care provided to people and relatives continues to be the best I have witnessed.”
The report gave special mention to areas such as an outstanding end-of- life care, a recruitment procedure that ensures the selection of high- quality staff, and the support of residents to make sure they were dressed and that their clothing was arranged to ensure their dignity.
Deborah Ivanova, deputy chief inspector of adult social care at the CQC, said: “The home had a culture of promoting people’s independence, recognising their individuality and providing care and support that embraced their culture and diversity.
“Excellent links with the local community, schools and charities have been developed to support the home and involve those living at Kingfishers.”
In the report, Ms Ivanovna was especially impressed with staff knowledge levels at Kingfisher’s and praised their continued commitment to raising care standards: “There was a real focus on developing staff’s knowledge and skills in order to provide high quality care.
“It was inspiring to find the staff at Kingfishers constantly looking for ways to improve care so people had positive experiences and led fulfilling lives.”
'Happiest day of my life'
Mark Aitchison, chief executive of Colten Care was pleased at how staff at the home had pushed for an ‘outstanding’ result from the CQC: “While all our homes are already rated ‘good’, this is the first overall ‘outstanding’ rating for one of our homes and it’s absolutely fantastic.”
Home manager, Beata Brzozowska was likewise impressed with staff dedication: “We’re thrilled with the inspectors’ report. It really is a testament to the commitment of our whole team. This is the happiest day of my life. Thank you all so much. We showed everyone that we can reach for the highest.”
