Residents at Arbury Lodge, where people are cared for following a hospital stay watched on as kind-hearted staff braved the shave for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Residents, staff, family and friends gathered at Arbury Lodge, which is run by Sanctuary Care at the George Eliot Hospital as colleagues, Kerry Brandrick and Leanne Forryan courageously took on a sponsored head shave to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support
Kerry, who is the activities leader at the suite will also be donating her long hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity which makes wigs for children suffering with hair loss.
She said: “I thought this would be a great way of doing my little bit to raise awareness of Neuroblastoma.” Kerry’s shave was in memory of a little boy from Tamworth who lost his fight against the rare type of cancer at the age of just three years old.
Care assistant Leanne’s cause is a little closer to home, raising money in the memory of her Auntie Dot, who sadly passed away from cancer in 1995.
Following the trim Leanne said: “I took part in the brave the shave because I wanted to do my bit for such an excellent cause, the Macmillan nurses were just brilliant with my Aunt – I was very anxious, but I knew I couldn’t back out.”
The ladies have so far raised just over £1000 with much of the sponsorship money still coming in; Kerry and Leanne have been overwhelmed with the support.
