Elizabeth Weblin, a resident at Murdoch House Care Home in Wokingham, who was born in 1912, the same year the Titanic sunk, has just celebrated her 105th birthday.
Elizabeth who has lived at the care home for six years, said: "In my 105 years I’ve seen so many changes. I’ve lived in the reign of King George V, King Edward VII, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth I. I’ve also seen 20 different Prime Ministers in my lifetime, which is a lot."
The secret to her long life is: “I have never smoked, I drink very little alcohol and eat mainly a vegetarian diet."
At the age of five, her father was killed by a German shell in the first World War in France.
She spent the first 20 years of her life in Peasedown st John, Somerset. After leaving school, she worked in hotels in Bath as a maid and then a cook.
In the early 1930s, Elizabeth moved to London, where she met and married her husband John in 1938.
"In 1941, during the Second World War, our home was destroyed in a bombing raid and all we were left with were two china plates," she added.
Elizabeth’s husband died in 1998 and she moved to Wokingham in 2001 to be near her son. She has one son John, two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Christine Tyrrell, manager of the home, said: “Elizabeth is a lovely lady that gets on with everyone. She is now our eldest resident.
“Elizabeth still goes to church with Dawn the activities organiser. We all enjoyed celebrated Elizabeth’s special day.”
