Mobile Petting Zoo visits The Manor House

Residents of The Manor House care home in North Walsham, Norfolk, were delighted to receive a visit by the popular mobile petting zoo, Zootastic.

Zootastic is a small family-run mobile petting zoo run by Alison and partner Ian.

The visit was part of the events and activities program organised by The Manor House Activities Team.

Among the animals, birds and reptiles visiting the home were rabbits, guinea pigs, snakes, lizards and even a very cute puppy. As part of the visit, residents were given a short talk on each of the animals by visiting handlers before being able to touch and hold them.

It has been suggested that interacting with animals can be very therapeutic to residents of care homes, particularly those who may have just recently moved to a home and perhaps have had to give up their own pet as part of that move.

Interaction with the animals can also help to stimulate and engage residents with each other as the animals can provide for interesting topics of conversation and various reactions.

Paula Pawsey, manager of The Manor House said of the event: “The residents really enjoyed the visit. For some it was the first time they had encountered snakes and iguanas close up; they were all rather brave! We hope to invite Zootastic back again and look forward to seeing more of their animals.”

Added Paula: “Many thanks to the handlers at Zootastic for bringing in the animals and sharing their knowledge and experise with everyone. Thank you also to the Activities Team for organising the event.”

The Manor House is located in North Walsham Wood , North Walsham, Norfolk, NR28 0LU.
