Something wonderful has come to the residents at Barchester’s The Fernes Care Home in Fareham. The residents have got to experience the joys of bringing new life to the world in the form of tiny little yellow ducklings thank to Incredible Eggs!
They arrived in their perfectly white eggs on Monday 24th March ready to hatch. By Thursday there was three tiny yellow fluffy ducklings who were joined by two more on Friday! The residents have all been interacting with the little fluffy ducks and working together to name them. Every resident and member of staff that wanted to added a name to a hat and 5 names were pulled out. The lucky winning names were: Millie, Amber, Dewy, Penelope and the aptly named Quack Quack. They are thoroughly enjoying making a wonderful mess to the residents delight! ‘It’s great to watch them playing in their water – we are excited to get them out and swimming’ one resident remarked.
Another resident has been so enamoured with ducks she has been sitting with them every evening and making sure they are eating and drinking enough.
‘Pet therapy is something that is close to my heart’ remarked Kat Claridge, Head of Lifestyle at The Fernes. ‘Pets bring enormous joy and can melt the hearts of everyone, opening up channels for conversations and sensory therapy. It is something we encourage every day here at The Fernes. Families are welcome to bring in their pets and myself and my team are always bringing in our own animals too! The ducklings have made people light up with joy and it’s such a great sight to see! We all waited in anticipation for the first duck to appear and it was a wonderful sight to behold’
The Ducks are at The Fernes until Wednesday 4th April and visitors are very welcome. If you would like to know more please get in touch with the team on 01329443600 or pop in anytime for a chat and a coffee. You can also visit www.barchester.com/thefernes for more information.
