A group of 90 people from the care sector took part in the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge, raising more than £35,000 for the , which helps current, former and retired care workers.
Sixteen organisations joined the charity to complete their annual challenge event, which saw the team cycle 24 miles in 12 hours, including 1,585 meters of ascent over the Pen-y-ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside hills.
Alex Ramamurthy, chief executive at the Care Workers Charity said: “I’m incredibly proud of and thankful to all those who participated in our annual challenge. This was one of the toughest challenges I have ever taken on, and I couldn’t have completed it without the camaraderie and support of my fellow team mates.
“These funds will allow us to help more care workers across the UK who find themselves in a crisis and need support.
"We hope everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will join us again next year.”
There are around two million care workers in the UK caring for some of the most vulnerable people in society. Care work involves early starts, long hours and can be physically and emotionally demanding and when that is coupled with an injury or an illness, people can go into a downward spiral both financially and mentally.
The Care Workers Charity, formerly the Care Professionals Benevolent Fund, was set up back in 2009 to give help to some of these care workers.
