Danny Wright, aged 83, was happy to embrace a burlesque dancer, when his care home in Colchester invited professionals to perform sexy dance routines for elderly men.
With feathery fans and scarves fluttering as part of a seductive performance, four ladies clad in French maid outfits stepped out from behind a bed screen at Milton Lodge care home - to an audience of men in their 80s and 90s.
Staff and residents’ family members at Milton Lodge Care Home looked on as the men (the majority of whom were widowed) whooped and cheered at the sight of the younger women.
Pork scratchings and lots of nuts
Clare Martin, the care home’s activities coordinator told carehome.co.uk “I’d never seen burlesque dancing before. I wasn’t too sure when I saw the girls but the men loved it.
“They were so excited. Danny was shouting ‘Wit woooo!’ I said I didn’t want anything too racy. There was a lot of clapping. We kept it a pub atmosphere. There was pork scratchings and lots of nuts.”
The care home is used to making residents wishes come true and the male residents’ requests for female performers, was prompted by an earlier visit from half-naked male waiters ‘Hunks in Trunks’ last October, requested by the home’s female residents.
Happy to grant the men’s wishes, Ms Martin said: “Consent forms were sent out to residents’ family members and their family also came along to watch the show.
"The dancers gave cuddles. Danny said 'I haven't had a cuddle in years'.
“The next day, Danny wouldn’t stop talking about the burlesque dancers. The men have already asked for the women to come back.”
Dick Smith was among the men enjoying the show – a husband of one of the home's female residents.
And the care home’s wish-granting efforts are far from over.
Ninety-nine-year-old Doll Jenkins has asked staff to bring back the semi-naked waiters from ‘Hunks in Trunks’ to the care home for her 100th birthday on 8 February. She intends to have a private dinner service offered to her and her family.
