New ‘St Andrew’s Court’ specialist nursing home announced for Hull

Exemplar Health Care has announced that its new Hull home will be called St Andrew’s Court, following a vote by residents from other Exemplar homes.

The new name for the home on Wheeler Street has been chosen to pay homage to a local historical landmark, St Andrew’s Dock. Specialising in physical and neuro disabilities, mental ill health and dementia, when it opens in summer 2019 St Andrew’s Court will provide 20 placements for adults in the region who live with complex needs.

St Andrew’s Court was named by Exemplar’s service user council, a group of resident Ambassadors who actively collaborate with senior management to improve everyday services for fellow residents. The influence of the service user council can range from involvement in recruitment to changing policy at a strategic level. Once St Andrew’s Court is up and running, residents will be encouraged to join the company-wide initiative.

The service user council voted collectively on St Andrew’s Court, from a list of potential names some of which came from former employees who will go on to work in the transformed service. The final vote was cast by Ian, who lives in an Exemplar home in West Midlands.

"When it came to deciding the name of the home, we knew we could trust our Service User Council to deliver. They have been integral to our development of new homes across the country - the insights they provide are absolutely invaluable so any opportunity we get to engage with them we take with both hands.”

Exemplar Health Care is collaborating with Constructa Services to transform St Andrew’s Court to meet the specialist requirements of the new residents. Formerly an elderly care home, the refurbishment will see each bedroom increase in size with suite facilities added throughout.

There will be renovations internally and in the grounds to ensure wheelchair accessibility throughout.
