Stable arts spring exhibition is a family affair

Stable Arts at Nynehead Court is delighted to announce that its Spring exhibition is of the work of the Willis family, a renowned Somerset painting dynasty.

This is a particularly special exhibition as not only is Richard Willis now a resident at Nynehead Court, where he has his studio, but it is also the first time that his work has been exhibited alongside that of his daughters Lucy and Tilly.

Richard holds the Legion d’Honneur for his service during the Second World War, and his naval memories and extensive knowledge of ships and battles have provided a constant source of subject matter for his paintings.

Lucy and Tilly are two of his four children from his marriage to the late Diana, daughter of renowned cartoonist HM Bateman. Lucy is a painter and printmaker who won the BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery in 1992, and Tilly is a professional artist who is particularly known for her paintings of Africa. ‘The Willis Family’ exhibition runs from Wednesday 6th March until Sunday 5th May. Mary Kembery, Arts Coordinator at Stable Arts, said: “We’re so excited that Richard, Lucy and Tilly’s work will be exhibited with us. It is quite a coup to have the work of these three distinguished local artists shown together, and of course, is even more special as Richard lives at Nynehead Court.”
