A care worker has been given a suspended jail sentence after she was found guilty of stealing a bra, whisky and rum as well as a dressing gown and glasses from residents at a care home in South Wales.
The judge at Newport Crown Court gave Julie Jones a six month jail sentence, suspended for two years and told her to complete a 20-day rehabilitation and activity requirement.
The 59-year-old who worked at Llanyravon Court Care Home in Cwmbran, stole a watch, an electric razor, a bottle of rum and a bottle of whisky as well as a wallet and a silver alarm clock from a resident, who has died since the thefts took place.
She also stole a bra, glasses and a dressing gown from other residents at the home between February 2017 and April 2018.
The court heard how the thefts came to light after a member of staff caught Jones, of Maendy Way, Cwmbran, attempting to steal a box from the care home containing continence pads from the home, a blanket, Christmas decorations and sandwiches.
Gwent police searched her home and found more items from the care home and Newport Crown Court heard that she was a ‘hoarder’.
Jones pleaded guilty to seven counts of theft and two counts of attempted theft. She was suspended from her job at the care home as soon as the thefts were discovered.
