A 51-year-old with learning difficulties has moved into sheltered housing in Scotland to be with her 81-year-old mum, who said that "having her here means that I can keep my eye on her."

Isa Curren first moved to Houston Court in Johnstone, Renfrewshire, in 2013 after her husband lost his sight.

In 2016, their daughter, Sharon moved into Bield's development, to be near her parents.

"We have a very special bond and I wouldn’t change us living together for the world”

Isa who enjoys going for lunch with Sharon and visiting the shops with her, says: “Having her here means that I can keep my eye on her and can easily pop in and say hello. We have a very special bond and I wouldn’t change us living together for the world."

She revealed that her daughter "has struggled with her learning difficulties most of her life, which has affected her speech. Although, Sharon could talk for Scotland now!"

This is not the first time the mother and daughter have lived under the same roof, having moved in together on three previous occasions.

Isa’s daughter Sharon said: “Growing up, I struggled with a few things, but my mum was always on hand to support me and help me through difficult times.

"She really is one in a million."

The pair have been there for each other throughout many periods of their lives, including the birth of Sharon’s daughter.

Maria Brown, peripatetic scheme manager with Bield, said: “It’s not very often that you have multiple family members living at one development. Isa and Sharon have such a close bond and do so much together.

“They really do cherish living here together and it just proves that no matter what age you are, you will always need your mum.”

Houston Court offers spacious sheltered housing people aged 50 and over who wish to retain their independence.
