Two sisters aged 94 and 102, who thought they may never see each other again, have been reunited due to a care home in Hampshire.
Olive Heasman, aged 94, who lives at Hartwood House care home in Lyndhurst, took part in the ‘Sprinkle of Cinnamon’ initiative which grants wishes to residents.
She asked to meet up again with her sister Peg, aged 102, who lives 150 miles away in Saffron Walden. The two sisters had not seen each other for two years.
Moira Baxter, general manager of Hartwood House said, “Sprinkle of Cinnamon was introduced to enable our residents to achieve unfulfilled ambitions or wishes. This is the first ‘Sprinkle of Cinnamon’ wish we have granted at Hartwood House and to say that Olive was overjoyed when she heard we had arranged for her to visit Peg is an understatement!”
“As neither Olive’s or Peg’s daughters felt able to drive the distance between Lyndhurst and Saffron Waldon and also manage Olive’s care needs on the journey, our activities co-ordinator, Nancy Hall de Vuyst accompanied Olive for the reunion. They travelled by taxi and were kindly offered a significant discount by local firm, A1 Cars in Totton.”
Olive and Peg were joined in their reunion by their daughters as well as other family members.
Olive said: “I didn’t think I would get the opportunity to see my sister again and it was so nice to spend time together. I am very grateful to Hartwood House for arranging this.”
Peg added, “I was so excited when I heard that Olive was coming to visit – I couldn’t believe it. It was a great day. I am now thinking about having a holiday in Lyndhurst and coming for a short stay at Hartwood House.”
