A man in his 80s has been charged with murdering his elderly wife, who was living in a care home in Norwich.
Police from Norfolk Constabulary were called to Grays Fair Court care home in New Costessey at 7.30pm on Friday 12 July, where they found Doreen Virgo, aged 89, dead.
A Home Office post mortem examination took place on Sunday which showed that Doreen Virgo, who was from Buxton, had died from compression of the neck.
Mick Virgo, aged 81 and also of Mill Street, Buxton, has been charged with murder and has been remanded in custody to appear at Norwich Magistrates Court this morning.
Mick Virgo was detained in hospital and received treatment, after his wife was found dead.
A spokeswoman for Norfolk County Council which runs Grays Fair Court care home, said the council is helping police with inquiries and added: “Staff and residents of Grays Fair Court are being supported by the management team at the care home and our wellbeing service."
