Meyrick Rise Care Home's garden gets transformed by NSC volunteers

Meyrick Rise Care Home have recently seen their garden transform, thanks to local volunteers from the National Citizens Service.

Seventeen teenage volunteers from the NCS descended on the Meyrick Rise garden, collectively providing over 500 hours to help improve our memorial garden.

2019 marks the twenty-first anniversary since The Sanctuary Hospice closed on the site of Meyrick Rise and we decided to don our gardening gloves to cut back the shrubbery, paint and restore the summerhouse and create a bright attractive wall mural for the memorial garden!

To say thank you to our volunteers we finished with an afternoon of take-away pizzas, chips and coke.

Sandie Mole, home manager said: “The National Citizen Service have been wonderful – the teenagers have been so joyful engaging with our residents - they have created a garden space which is welcoming, bright and somewhere families can pay and leave tributes for loved ones.”

National Citizens Service is a life-changing programme for teenagers aged 15-17 years old and gives community experiences so that young people come away with a host of new skills and bags of confidence.
