Ninety-six-year-old Lilian has joined her son at his care home, after being diagnosed with dementia.
Raymond, who has learning difficulties, has been living at Edendale Lodge in Crowhurst, Surrey since 2013, and his mother Lilian would visit him twice a year on his birthday and at Christmas.
The care home revealed that both of them admitted their relationship had broken down and Lilian felt Raymond was becoming very difficult to manage.
A spokesperson for the home said: “Now it’s a different story. They are spending quality time together without the associated domestic and care pressures they had when living together outside of Edendale Lodge.
“When Lilian moved into Edendale Lodge, her son Raymond said ‘I didn’t like my old mum but I do now’.
“Lillian definitely recognises her son as she takes on the parental role, and tells him off now and again!”
Lilian joined Edendale Lodge after being admitted to hospital. While in hospital, she was diagnosed with dementia and social services became concerned about her living on her own at home and felt she would be safer being looked after in a care home.
Theresa Toal, registered manager at Edendale Lodge said: “Working closely with Lillian’s family and social services we were able to welcome Lillian into our home. We feel very privileged to have Lillian here with us and are really happy to see her and her son enjoy their time together whilst we do our bit supporting and caring for them both.”
