Looking for a care home for your friend or family member can be a time-consuming task, with many spending hours trawling through reports by the care regulator and visiting numerous care homes.
However there is another source of vital information at carehome.co.uk which now hosts over 150,000 reviews of care homes.
These reviews of care homes give a view of the home from the perspective of a resident, family member or friend and can highlight aspects of a care home that stand out, such as good end of life care or warm and compassionate staff.

carehome.co.uk features nearly 18,000 care homes and receives over 16 million visits per year from the public looking for the right care home.
The reviews rate the care home in 12 categories, including the care received, the quality of the food and value for money. These ratings are amalgamated into a score out of ten and reviewers can also leave a comment giving their personal experience. carehome.co.uk only accept reviews from people who have used the care home in the last 12 months.
Reviews of care homes
Linlithgow care home in Scotland received a glowing review from the daughter of a resident, who said: “Warmth and kindness surround me each time I walk through the door at Linlithgow care home to visit my mother. A quiet, calm and caring ambience is testament to the hard work and efficiency of the management and staff. I can honestly say I have never experienced so much genuine kindness and support from so many individuals under one roof.
She added: “It is wonderful knowing that when I phone my mother in the evening, she is safe and secure in lovely, well-maintained surroundings and has enjoyed delicious meals and has had another happy day.”
In another review, the care at Grange Lea care home in Bolton is highly praised, with the granddaughter of a resident saying: “Since relocating my nan to Grange Lea, the level of care has blown us away. Every member of the care team treats my nan as she was their own. She is sung to, cuddled and made to feel like one of the family every day.
“She is always clean and well presented, regularly gets her hair done and make-up put on (Nan would never want to leave the house without it).”
People can either submit their review online or write them on a card which is then posted to carehome.co.uk.
