Care provider Hallmark has been given planning permission to build a 79-bed care home in Bath, Somerset.

The care home is being built on a former car park on Frome Road in Odd Down opposite a Sainsbury’s store.

The plans reveal there will be 28 rooms for residential care on the ground floor, 34 dementia care ones on the first floor and 17 extra care units on the second floor.

The care home will also feature a café, cinema, hairdressers, therapy room as well as a wellness suite, winter and roof garden and library.

There will be a specially designed dementia community with a centralised activity hub which will include an additional hair salon, a reminiscence lounge and activity room. Outside there will be a wildlife refuge, a courtyard and landscaped gardens.

Avnish Goyal, chair of Hallmark Care Homes and managing director of Savista Developments, said: “We are delighted to have secured planning permission for this wonderful facility that will be an asset to the community and local residents. The home will have a number of innovative ideas and new features that we are looking to showcase when it opens in late 2021.”

Ram Goyal, managing director at Hallmark Care Homes, added: “I am extremely excited about this development. The luxurious home will provide residents with a tranquil and safe space where they can be supported to live an active and fulfilled life.”

Construction on the care home will begin in April 2020 and it will open its doors to its first residents in late 2021.

Phil Jones, director at Turley, national planning and development consultant, said that the project “will provide much needed high-quality care accommodation in Bath”.

He said: “Redeveloping the currently underutilised site for elderly and dementia residents will bring the site back into purposeful use and the proposals will deliver economic, social and wider environmental benefits for the community.”
