Patcham Nursing Home in Brighton has closed its doors to all visitors, after a GP who visited the home last week, was diagnosed with coronavirus.

The care home in Eastwick Close which cares for 24 elderly people has closed the home to all friends and families of residents as well as contractors and suppliers.

A spokesperson for the home revealed that none of the residents are feeling unwell but following the closure of its local GP surgery, County Oak Medical Centre, after a doctor there tested positive for the disease, the care home’s owners opted to take the precautionary measure.

The GP caught the disease while staying in a chalet in France, from a man dubbed a 'super spreader' who has infected 11 people.

The care home's spokeswoman said: "It is important to state that no-one at the home is unwell.

"However, following the closure of the local GP surgery, as a precaution we have closed the home to all visitors."

The spokeswoman revealed that the care home has carried out checks on both residents and staff and that they had sought the advice of Public Health England. Residents are having their temperatures checked on a regular basis and are being monitored for symptoms.

Patcham Nursing Home is run by Wren Retirement Living and offers nursing care as well as palliative care and respite care.
