The Minister for Care Helen Whately has said that even though time is precious for people with family commitments, “a job in social care can work around you and your life”.
The minister was speaking to raise awareness of the Department of Health and Social Care’s (DHSC) ongoing ‘Every day is different’ campaign to encourage people to apply for jobs in the care sector.
As part of the recruitment campaign, one of several ‘Family Care-eer Days’ is being hosted including an event at Addison House in Enfield, run by Shine Partnerships. The recruitment open day attracted over 20 applications for jobs with the care group.
Eleven candidates also applied for roles and interviews following a Family Care-eer Day at Bupa’s Northlands House Care in Southampton, attended by the minister.
Helen Whately said: “We all know time is precious, especially when we have family commitments and responsibilities but the Family Care-eer day has shown future care workers of Enfield how working in care can be flexible, varied and rewarding.
“I’m delighted that it was such a success and how interested everyone has been about a career in social care.”
Shine Partnerships offers supported living accommodation for people with complex care needs.
More than 20 applications for jobs at Shine Partnerships were received on the day with 10 interviews taking place and some of the 50 attendees taking home application forms.
The public were invited to bring their children to the event and entertainment was provided for them to allow parents the time to complete job applications. The public also took a tour of Addison House, which supports people with mental health needs.
Manoj Mahtani, managing director for Shine Partnerships, said there are flexible jobs available across the group including day and night shifts for support workers. “At Shine Partnerships we specialise in mental health and complex needs and we were delighted to have so many people express an interest in working with us.
“We are always looking for new talented and passionate people with the right values to join our team and many of the attendees seemed like they would be a great fit.
“I was so glad to hear that attendees of our Family Care-eer Day are now considering roles at our home after we were able to showcase just what the role is like.”
