Care home residents are having some big laughs in coronavirus lockdown, thanks to a giant game of Kerplunk.
The delighted faces of residents at Fir Villa Residential Home in Yeovil have been captured on video as they eagerly try to pull out giant sticks without disturbing any colourful balls stacked up precariously.
Staff at the Fir Villa Residential Home in Somerset, which supports 22 residents, filmed the residents playing the giant game and posted it on Facebook,
Care workers got inspired by reports of another care home playing a giant game of Hungry Hippos and decided to go one better to make sure residents were having as much fun as possible, while in isolation.
The residents of Bryn Celyn Care Home, in Maesteg, Wales, were first seen having fun in isolation while playing Hungry Hippos
Residents were filmed sitting in a circle in wheelchairs, each holding a basket on the end of a pole. In the centre is a pile of colourful plastic balls.
Care home staff then wheeled the residents forward and backwards to let residents catch as many plastic balls as possible with their baskets.
Care workers have big ideas for huge laughs
The Fir Villa residents have played their own game of Hungry Hippos and their appetite for larger-than-life games lead to care staff getting creative to meet residents' needs for lots of laughs.
Laura McAllister, activities coordinator at Fir Villa, said "We played our own game of Hungry Hippos here and I was thinking what else we could do", she said.
The activities coordinator used bamboo sticks, coloured balls and rolled up netting she found in the garden to create the massive Kerplunk game.
She is now eager to come up with her next big idea to keep residents laughing.
