Doncaster's new care home will promote independence and self-worth

Runwood Homes Senior Living is opening a brand new 81 bedroomed care home in Bessacarr and says it will promote "independence, achievement and self-worth".

The care home in partnership with Doncaster Council, is spaciously set over two floors with carefully considered lifestyle enhancing facilities.

The facilities will include hairdressing salon and beauty therapy, cinema room/quiet space lounge, activities room, dedicated sensory areas for those living with dementia, as well as several sociable lounge and dining areas.

The brand new home due to open its doors in September has been named Liberty House to promote ‘independence, achievement and self-worth.’

Kathleen George who will be managing the home and has experience in being registered manager for three other Runwood Homes in Doncaster said: “This is the most exciting opportunity I’ve had yet. I am very excited and honoured to be the registered manager of Liberty House. With a great team behind me at Liberty House, the home will be full of caring, fun, passionate and dedicated people tending to all of our residents.

“At Liberty House, we can promise any potential residents the opportunity to live in a beautiful, genuine and caring home environment. We have a friendly, qualified and dedicated team to ensure residents are enabled to receive quality care.”

Care home will offer person-centred approach

Ms George has worked in health and social care for the past 25 years and is very passionate about maintaining a person-centred approach whilst promoting the residents' independence.

“It is very important to promote independence because it promotes a sense of achievement and gives everyone a sense of self-worth and well-being. Person-centred values for our residents and staff is very important to me; this ensures their rights, especially the right of choice.

“I believe staff and residents making their own decisions has a positive effect on their confidence and general well-being. Liberty House will be a comfortable and welcoming home environment for all with an open door policy to make everyone feel welcome and included," she said.

Everyone will have access to safe outdoor living in Liberty House. The new home will have an enclosed, fully-furnished quadrangle which will be finished with plants and shrubs and a landscaped garden complete with BBQ facilities.
