Wicksteed Court Care Home – how we remained COVID-19 free

Despite the challenging times, the care team at Wicksteed Court Care Home have kept their residents and themselves happy, well and safe.

The care team at Wicksteed Court Care Home are regularly receiving praise, thanks and presents from friends and family members of their residents for keeping their loved ones safe and well during these difficult times.

Thankfully, no residents or staff in Wicksteed Court to date have shown any symptoms of Covid-19, with all Covid-19 test results coming back negative.

Credit for keeping Wicksteed Court free of Covid-19 goes to the home manager and the care team. As they have been closely following and implementing government guidance and infection control measures. In addition to wearing PPE and regular handwashing, the team have brought in professional cleaning companies to carry out deep cleans. Temperature checks are carried out on team members, and anyone showing symptoms has self-isolated for 14 days.

None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of the relatives of the residents at Wicksteed Court; who have been very understanding about the difficult decision to restrict visits to the home during the lockdown.

Mrs Ritu Mehra, the registered manager said: “As with all care homes up and down the country, the decision to lockdown Wicksteed Court and put a hold on families and friends visiting the home was difficult one to take, but it was essential. Keeping our residents safe is, and always will be our main priority.

"Luckily we live in an age where we can use technology, such as video calls to support residents with staying in touch with their loved ones and to keep families connected. Some friends and families have been talking to their loved ones through the windows and via various ground floor access points in the home.

"We are blessed with a truly fantastic care team who continue to do what they love and provide great care for our residents. Our care team have done a brilliant job with keeping spirits high and supporting each other during what has been and continues to be a difficult time, especially for those working in social care and the NHS”.

Everyone at Wicksteed Court Care Home is hopeful that a vaccine will be available soon, so that life can go back to normal. Until then, the care team will continue to work hard to keep their residents happy, well and safe.
