The Duchess of Northumberland is opening a new £12m care home in Alnwick which has been designed to create a sense of ‘home’ as well as ‘care’.

Beech Tree House care home

The purpose-built Beech Tree House, at Lisburn Terrace, Alnwick, is the latest addition to the Prestwick Care portfolio of residential care homes and along with providing nursing, dementia and residential care, the 86-bedroom home is equipped with all the necessary specialist facilities to care for young, physically disabled people, bariatric residents and those with brain injuries.

The bedrooms in the care home have inbuilt flatscreen televisions and the home also has a coffee shop, cinema room and hair salon.

Bunty Malhotra, Prestwick Care’s chief executive, said the company “is very proud to have been able to create this much needed facility for the people of Alnwick and the surrounding county of Northumberland".

Mr Malhotra added that he hopes the company, which has agreed to be the main sponsor of the Alnwick Christmas lights for the next 10 years, “will become part of the very fabric of the town.

“We are absolutely committed to serving the people of Alnwick and its surrounding communities,” he said.

Around 100 jobs have been created at Beech Tree House.

Beech Tree House is Prestwick Care’s second Alnwick residential care home - after it purchased Hillcrest Care Home, off South Road in 2019 - and the second in its Platinum range of homes.

“Ours is a family business,” said Mr Malhotra, “and the concept of family is completely ingrained in everything we do. To that end, the welfare of our residents – especially during the current Covid-19 pandemic – is paramount.”

The company’s 13-strong portfolio of homes across Tyne and Wear and Northumberland, will be joined by new, purpose-built care home facilities at Ryhope, Sunderland and at Whitley Bay later this year.
