Recreation and well-being team member, Tracey Hampton, who works at Abbotsleigh Care Centre, Tonbridge in Kent, had her head shaved by her colleague and raised over £1,000 for the cancer charity which is “close to her heart”.

Ms Hampton’s fundraising money will go towards help with paying for Macmillan nurses, who support people living with cancer.

Ms Hampton who has worked with Nellsar Group for 13 years said: “I feel liberated and proud to have raised such a large sum of money for Macmillan. This will help families at this very sad time – just to have someone at the end of the phone to talk to and listen to them.”

’A lot of us have been affected by cancer’

Michelle Barrow, recreation and wellbeing team lead, said: “Tracey decided to brave the shave for Macmillan Cancer Support because it’s a cause very close to her heart.

“Here at Abbotsleigh Care Centre, a lot of us have been affected by cancer within our own families and friendship groups or residents we have cared for. Tracey will be rocking some funky hats over the colder months to keep her head warm.

“Tracey’s head shave has encouraged us to start a knitting circle, with our expert knitters here, to knit Tracey a few bobble hats for the winter.”

Nellsar Group launches Great Nellsar Cake Off

As well as raising money for charity, Nellsar Care Homes recently launched the ‘Great Nellsar Cake Off’, following the latest series of The Great British Bake Off on Channel 4.

The group challenged both residents and staff from all homes based in the south-east to come together, bake cakes and try to win a Nellsar ‘star baker’ prize.

After the cakes were completed to a competitive standard, staff sent photos of their finished cakes for the judges to decide the winners.

The following winners each won a prize for their residents’ fund.

Meyer House Care Centre, Erith in Kent, won first prize after they produced a seaside themed cake called ‘holiday in a cake’ with sea, sand, shells, palm trees and fish.
