Local Bupa Care Home residents celebrate National Mad Hatter Day with a tea party in his honour. In the current climate, we all need something to smile about, and National Mad Hatter Day (6th October) certainly gave residents of Manor House Bupa Care Home cause to do so, this week.

National Mad Hatter Day gave residents and staff at the Wirral-based care home, the perfect excuse to dress up, bake some sweet treats and enjoy an afternoon tea together.

While residents enjoyed cups of tea, sandwiches and scones, the care team dressed up in Mad Hatter fancy dress to entertain them and brighten up their day. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, many residents are shielding, with loved ones unable to visit, therefore events such as these – that bring everyone together – have never been more important.

Staff set the scene by decorating the home with Alice in Wonderland style props and decorations and completed the fun-filled event with a chocolate fountain. Residents particularly enjoyed dipping fruit and sweets into the chocolate.

Manor House Bupa Care Home resident, Audrey Cattermole, commented: “We had a wonderful day, eating cake and spending time together. It was very funny to see Lucy, Pat and Joanne dress up as the Mad Hatter while they poured tea and quoted lines from Alice in Wonderland.”

Home Manager, Kathryn McDonald, added: “I’m so proud of how the team at Manor House Bupa Care Home have gone above and beyond to care for our residents and keep them happy and entertained throughout lockdown. They’ve excelled themselves with the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party today; the residents enjoyed coming together for afternoon tea and story sharing, so this may become an annual event.”

Manor House Bupa Care Home is a friendly community which welcomes residents in need of residential care, on a short and long term basis.
